We start off 2020 with a lot more anime than I had anticipated. Basically, we have delayed items, early arrivals and some anime I bought at the right time.
For this update, we have 14 anime titles. Yep, that’s right.
#01 | Anime Limited Christmas Sales Haul
The first few items of the year are delayed anime titles from the Anime Limited 12 Days of Christmas sale. The distributor could only get Days 2-7, Day 12 and the very first orders of Day 8 shipped out in time for Christmas. My orders were on the latter half of Day 8 so it had missed the window.
Eventually, those titles arrived before I headed back to my current city. The anime titles were Aoharu x Machinegun, Kiss Him, Not Me! and Mind Game. Each was £4.99 from the sale so I figured there was no harm picking them up sooner than usual.
#02 | Maquia: When The Promised Flower Blooms
I heard that FOPP held a sale on Anime Limited items and surprisingly so did HMV. I went to visit HMV’s store and they had a couple of anime on offer, and one of them was for the film Maquia: When The Promised Flower Blooms. The collector’s edition set was always expensive to acquire but for £19.99 I figured I may as well considering my original plans to go for the Nozomi version pretty much fell through because it was too expensive to acquire.
#03 | Attack on Titan Season 3 Part 1
Last year I acquired the second season of Attack on Titan in its limited-edition form to match the first season from years ago. Now I finally have Attack on Titan Season 3 Part 1 in its limited-edition form and it’s actually out of print, so that’s some pure luck right there. I do have Part 2 pre-ordered so that is sorted. I ordered Part 1 through United Publications who had one last copy left for £38.99 plus postage.
#04 | Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion the Movie III: Glorification
With the first film picked up back in 2018 and the second film picked up back in 2019, Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion III: Glorification has finally been picked up because it took Anime Limited this long to get the movie trilogy completely released. I ordered this film through MVM’s 20% off January sale because it was cheaper (£22.39).
#05 | Funimation UK Clearance Haul
Anime Limited lost the partnership deal with Funimation in April 2019 and surprisingly they were allowed to give fans the chance to grab those remaining titles on the first day of the 12 Days of Christmas sale. I picked up a fair amount of titles in two batches, and the first batch arrived in January.
The titles were Attack on Titan: Junior High (£4.99), Barakamon (£7.99), Shomin Sample (£7.99) and Yurikuma Arashi (£7.99). Those prices offered were more than a bargain so I went for them as soon as I saw them. Very happy to actually get them as well. The second batch should arrive sometime in the month of February.
#06 | Freezing and Freezing Vibration
Early into January, I was notified that an Amazon third-party seller had a bunch of old Funimation limited edition stock that was basically ‘like new’ condition and were being sold for low prices. I waited because I didn’t want to rush into the offerings just yet, and the results from other users turned out to be pretty positive. Eventually, I decided to go for it with Freezing (£25) and its second season Freezing Vibration (£11).
Both Freezing seasons have been on my list for a very long time now. I actually tried to get Freezing’s limited edition back in 2013 but I just missed the window so this is probably one of the most surprising pickups that I have ever done for my anime collection.
#07 | Mobile Suit Gundam the Origin V-VI: Chronicle of the Loum Battlefield
Anime Limited continues the Gundam releases with Mobile Suit Gundam the Origin V-VI focusing on the Loum Battlefield story arc. I ordered this set through MVM’s 20% off January sale because it was cheaper (£22.39) and I had to miss out on the early bird offer back in late November. I watched some Gundam films earlier in the year so I look forward to finishing off the Gundam Origin series with this collection.
#08 | SSSS.GRIDMAN
The final anime of the month is an early arrival from MVM’s 20% off January sale. Manga Entertainment had early stock for its UK replica limited edition release of SSSS.GRIDMAN (£36) and it turned out pretty well. The Amaray case not using the US artwork has been expected many times but I certainly was not expecting a slipcover to be included.
Additional Notes
And that wraps up the January 2020 haul. Yeah, there was a lot of anime that had arrived or were picked up during that single month alone. I honestly was not expecting the haul to be this large. Thankfully I do have more anime incoming in the coming months.
So far, we have the second batch of titles from the Funimation UK Clearance sale with GANGSTA. and Lucky Star which may take a while to ship due to a large number of orders that it had received. Then we have Anime Limited’s own pre-orders with King’s Game the Animation, and Plastic Memories Parts 1 & 2. I do have plans to grab Penguin Highway as well.
Manga Entertainment titles have also been pre-ordered thanks to MVM’s 20% off January sale with Attack on Titan Season 3 Part 2 and ZOMBIE LAND SAGA. The latter of which has actually shipped and attempted delivery at my location so it just missed the January collection haul. The unboxing for that will be available immediately after this post! Manga has confirmed more titles in store for the future with the likes of Wise Man’s Grandchild which is a neat addition (and also saves me money from importing) so I’ll order it when the time is right.
I hope to also pick up some more manga/novels, Asian films, and video games in the coming months as well.
