Freezing Season 1 (Limited Edition Blu-ray & DVD) Unboxing [NSFW]

Freezing is a 2011 television anime series based on the manhwa written by Dal Young Im and illustrated by Kwang Hyun Kim. The anime was adapted by studio A.C.G.T. and published by Kadokawa Pictures (at the time it was Media Factory before the latter became part of Kadokawa). The series aired during the Winter 2011 season in January.

Freezing is an interesting case because it’s very rare to have a Korean manhwa be adapted into anime form. But regardless it’s still got a following and the manhwa is still on-going at the time of this post. The anime did well enough to become one of Funimation’s popular titles.

The first season was released by Funimation as a Blu-ray & DVD combo pack limited edition set before eventually getting a standard edition. Those who have bought the limited edition very early on also included a booklet (my copy does not, which makes sense because it’s probably one of the last ones printed). The info sheet in older releases such as this one can also end up not being included and in this case, it wasn’t included.

Despite being released in the UK by Manga Entertainment at the time, it was only released on DVD so importing the Funimation release was the only option to grab the series on Blu-ray.

Note: Due to the artwork presented this unboxing is declared ‘Not Safe For Work‘ so readers advised.

Released in August 2012, Freezing from Funimation contains the entire first season (12 episodes total) across two Blu-ray discs and two DVD discs using its own master. The audio options available include the Funimation English dub and the original Japanese audio with English subtitles. The white subtitles are unlockable during playback, and the Blu-ray discs are compatible with Regions A & B Blu-ray players and Regions 1, 2 & 4 DVD players. The DVD discs are in NTSC format.

The US limited edition release for Freezing is no longer available but some units may be available on Amazon. The show, in general, is available in the form of an Essentials release.

Plot Synopsis (via Funimation):

“Eager to follow in the footsteps of his fallen sister, Kazuya enrolls at West Genetics Academy, a training facility for buxom heroes known as Pandoras. These courageous schoolgirls are genetically-enhanced with enough sex appeal to cripple a man – and the superhuman strength to slaughter aliens by the dozen. Kazuya’s role is that of Limiter, a Pandora’s battle partner, and he quickly sets his sights on the most feared beauty in school, Satellizer el Bridget. This full-figured annihilator of aliens is as desirable as she is deadly, but rubbing her the wrong way could lead to gross bodily harm.
