DANDADAN (ダンダダン, Dandadan) Season 2, also known as DAN DA DAN, is a 2025 television anime series based on Yukinobu Tatsu’s manga series of the same name and a continuation to the 2024 anime series. The series was adapted by studio Science SARU, and the staff credits include directors Abel Góngora & Fūga Yamashiro, series composition writer Hiroshi Seko, character designer Naoyuki Onda, and music composed by kensuke ushio. The season first aired in Japan on July 2025.
Background:
“While the mission to exorcise Jin “Jiji” Enjouji’s family home is underway, things are not going as expected. Momo Ayase narrowly evades an attempted abduction while Ken “Okarun” Takakura and Jiji are ambushed by the Kitou family – the unsettling landlords of the cursed estate. The trio’s efforts threaten the foundation of this enigmatic town shrouded in legends and mysteries.
As Momo, Okarun, and Jiji are drawn deeper into the maze of folklore and supernatural entities, they must each utilize their unique powers if they want to survive and unravel the secrets of the uncanny town.”

The second season of DANDADAN has now arrived on home video, and the story will continue into a third season later down the line and the manga still on-going over on Weekly Shonen Jump. I haven’t read the manga but watched both seasons as they aired and they were great. The second season continues directly from the first season and covers more story arcs, including the addition of a new member to Momo and Okarun’s group. Aside from one arc that does feature a character that I found to be rather annoying, the season as a whole was pretty solid.
Science SARU, a studio known for their experimental and unique styles, returned to animate the second season and will also work on the third season. Most of the staff are also back, but we have Spanish director Abel Góngora helming the season who’s worked with the studio for a number of projects including Scott Pilgrim Takes Off and the Summer 2026 anime series Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia. Baring in mind we have had directors from outside Japan work on anime before, with the most notable being Michael Arias for Tekkonkinkreet over at Studio 4°C 20 years ago.
North American distributor GKIDS and UK distributor Anime Limited acquired the rights to DANDADAN for both the US and UK territories from TOHO, with GKIDS handling the streaming as well making it available on both Crunchyroll and Netflix. Both distributors also screened the first few episodes to theatres before the season aired.
Collector’s Edition Contents:
DANDADAN Season 2 was released by Anime Limited much closer to GKIDS’ release window this time around, whilst also maintaining the Alien and Yokai Edition designs. Like before, the more accessible version is the Yokai Edition, which is what I went for, featured Okarun, Momo, Aira, and Jiji on the cover, while the Store Exclusive version is the Alien Edition, featuring Momo, Okarun, Jiji, and Kinta on the cover.
Both are pretty much identical in content otherwise. The collector’s edition release is presented with a rigid box with an o-card glow in the dark slipcase, a Scanavo case housing the discs, a 56-page booklet, an art card and a sticker sheet. The booklet includes character designs, key visuals and discussions with the staff of the series’ second season.
The rigid box artwork is free of any information or BBFC content and the info sheet covers the information and specification like previous Anime Limited releases. The collector’s edition Blu-ray has an unspecified number of units printed (but is expected to be the usual 1000 run) for an SRP of £69.99. Also available on the same day is a standard edition.
I pre-ordered the series on its own during Anime Limited’s early bird offer earlier this month for £39.99 (£35.99 with the 10% off Anime Unlimited discount) plus £3.50 postage.

The collector’s edition Blu-ray release for DANDADAN Season 2 contains all 12 episodes across two Blu-ray discs, with the encode and authoring done by Com’on Screen, the French authoring company who have worked with Anime Limited’s French branch.
You have the option to choose between English & French menu text at the start and can switch back and forth without having to reset the player. Audio options available on the English option include Japanese with English subtitles and the Bang Zoom! English dub commissioned by GKIDS, whilst the French option include Japanese with French subtitles and the Time-Line Factory French dub commissioned by ADN. French’s dub/subtitle options are locked to the French menu, while English’s dub/subtitle options are locked to the English menu.
The white subtitles are locked during playback, and the Blu-ray discs are region restricted to players set to B.
A couple extra notes regarding the discs for this release. The first season used GKIDS’s discs which I was told they had the wrong gamma colours on the authoring process, whereas Com’on Screen’s author for the French disc didn’t have this issue, so I can see why they switched for this season’s release. The Japanese audio commentaries are only available on the English menu option with no French subtitles support (as the extras were carried over from GKIDS’ release).
