The Irregular at Magic High School (魔法科高校の劣等生, Mahōka Kōkō no Rettōsei) Season 3, also known as Mahouka Season 3, is a 2024 television anime series based on Tsutomu Satou’s light novel series of the same name with illustrator Kana Ishida, and the third season to both the 2014 anime series The Irregular at Magic High School and 2020 anime series The Irregular at Magic High School: Visitor Arc. The series was directed by Jimmy Stone and produced by studio Eight Bit, with script writer Munemasa Nakamoto, character designer Kana Ishida and music composer Taku Iwasaki. The series first aired in Japan in April 2024.

After the new year broadcast for the Reminiscence Arc television special, Aniplex and Dengeki Bunko revealed the third season of the anime was going ahead, which eventually aired in 2024 covering three additional story arcs similarly to the first season, but done in a single cours worth.

The Irregular at Magic High School Season 3 adapts the Double Seven Arc storyline (volume 12 of the light novel), Steeplechase Arc storyline (volume 13) and Ancient City Insurrection Arc storyline (volumes 14-15), all taking place after the events of the second season of the anime which covered the Visitor Arc storyline.

A majority of the main staff members returned to work on this season including the studio Eight Bit, though this time Jimmy Stone takes over as director who had previously supported various episodes of the anime as either Episode Director or Storyboard Artist. He’s also going to return as director for the next project Yotsuba Succession Arc which is being adapted as a film.

Aniplex of America once again acquired the rights for the English speaking territories (US, Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia & New Zealand) with a simulcast over on Crunchyroll in both dubbed and subbed formats. Once again, the series hasn’t received any home video releases in the UK but Aniplex have continued to release the series on Blu-ray in North America and in a complete season collection like the previous season.

Limited Edition Contents:

The limited edition release for The Irregular at Magic High School Season 3 is a combination of Aniplex’s current model of following the complete season set approach but also keeping the packaging style of the previous instalments in the franchise.

The limited edition Blu-ray release is presented with an o-card slipcase, an Amaray case housing the discs, and a 58-page special booklet featuring episode summaries, character designs, background artwork and illustrations from the current season.

The o-card slipcase artwork has information and specs on the back cover. Aniplex are fairly random when it comes to presenting their specs, they either use a o-card strip or just shove them on the back cover. The limited edition Blu-ray set was released for an SRP of $159.98.

The set includes the original Japanese audio with English subtitles and the Bang Zoom! English dub commissioned by Aniplex of America with optional English subtitles for the on-screen text.

The white subtitles are unlockable during playback, and the Blu-ray discs are region accessible to players set to A & B.
