Love Live! Superstar!! (ラブライブ!スーパースター!!, Rabu Raibu! Sūpāsutā!!) Season 3 is a 2024 television anime series that’s part of a multimedia project between Kadokawa, Lantis and studio Sunrise and the third season to the 2021 anime series. The television series is directed by Takahiko Kyōgoku and produced by studio Sunrise (now known as Bandai Namco Filmworks). Staff credits also include series composition writer Jukki Hanada, original character designer Yūhei Murota, character designer Atsushi Saitō and music composed by Yoshiaki Fujisawa. The third season first aired in Japan on October 2024.
Background:
“Yuigaoka Private Girls High School. A school that lies in between Omotesando, Harajuku, and Aoyama and the birthplace of the school idol group Liella! and they begin their third year. For Kanon Shibuya and the other first gen students, this is their final year of high school. Before the school’s rooftop where they resonated their voices with all they had, the road lined with trees that they ran through, and everything else changes into just a memory…“Let’s make a promise.”
This school idol project started off with 5, they made their dream come true with 9, and they will come together with 11. Take flight! Our Love Live!”
Plot Synopsis via Anime Limited, March 2026.
The Liella! idol group continues onto the third season which I believe is the first time the Love Live! franchise has reached beyond two seasons for their respective groups. Previous ones had only covered two seasons followed by a theatrical film, so perhaps Sunrise decided to switch it up to avoid repeating the same formula. And if that weren’t enough, they have expanded their roster going from nine idols up to eleven with Tomari Onitsuka and Wien Margarete entering the fray.
I’m still behind on the Love Live! backlog as I still have Nijigasaki High School Idol Club and earlier seasons of Superstar to watch first, but sometimes watching them back to back is just as entertaining. Hopefully the music is good too.
Anime Limited have been acquiring the UK & Ireland rights to each Love Live! instalment since Love Live! Sunshine! and have maintained releasing them on Blu-ray with most of them also streamed to whatever platform they could find as well. It’s been poorly handled in general but at least they’re getting released on-disc whereas Crunchyroll US doesn’t show any signs of releasing any of the recent instalments on home video for the time being.
As of this point, Crunchyroll US have yet to release Love Live! Superstar!! Seasons 2 & 3 as well as Yohane the Parhelion: Sunshine in the Mirror, which is why these are subtitled only over here as there was no English dub produced. I know I criticise Anime Limited for jumping the gun, but it looks like luck was on their side for this occasion.
Worth noting that as far I am aware, Anime Limited don’t have the rights for the original Love Live! School Idol Project series (as MVM released them first), Nijiyon Animation, Love Live! Nijigasaki High School Idol Club Movie Trilogy, and the upcoming film Love Live! Hasunosora Girls’ High School Idol Club Bloom Garden Party. But never say never considering Anime Limited have released anime of all sorts over here.
Collector’s Edition Contents:

We’re three seasons into Love Live! Superstar!! and Anime Limited have maintained their consistency as well. Like the previous ones there’s not much to offer on content but at least the artwork choices are good.
The collector’s edition release is presented with a rigid box, a Scanavo case housing the discs, and a 12-page booklet. The booklet features illustrated artwork and brief character information for each Liella! member. As you may have noticed below, my copy of the booklet is in French because it’s supposed to be used for the French home video release so Anime Limited’s Quality Control strikes again (this happened with Diebuster recently).

The rigid box artwork is free of any information or BBFC content and the info sheet covers the information and specification like previous Anime Limited releases. The collector’s edition Blu-ray has an unspecified number of units printed (but is expected to be the usual 1000 run) for an SRP of £69.99, with a standard edition Blu-ray available for retailers at an SRP of £39.99.
I pre-ordered the series on its own during Anime Limited’s early bird offer last February for £39.99 (£36 with the 10% off Anime Unlimited discount) plus £3.50 postage.
