My Senpai is Annoying (Limited Edition Blu-ray & DVD) Unboxing

My Senpai is Annoying (先輩がうざい後輩の話, Senpai ga Uzai Kōhai no Hanashi) is a 2021 television anime series based on Shiro Manta’s manga series of the same name. The series was produced by studio Doga Kobo, and the staff credits include director Ryota Itoh, screenplay writer Yoshimi Narita, character designer Shigemitsu Abe and music composed by Hiroaki Tsutsumi. The season was first aired in Japan on October 2021.

Background:

“Being seen as a full-fledged business woman isn’t easy for Igarashi Futaba when her loudmouthed senpai, Takeda Harumi, always treats her like a kid. Maybe she feels more than she lets on, but one thing’s for sure: She’s still annoyed!”

Plot Synopsis via Crunchyroll, June 2023.

Before the anime first aired, the first time I heard about My Senpai is Annoying was its manga which was licensed by Seven Seas and what caught my eye was its art style especially how Futaba has that annoyed look to her from Takeda, her senpai. It’s a slice of life romance comedy series so Doga Kobo is a good pick for adapting the series into an anime.

Doing some research, I also didn’t realise the demographic for the manga is Josei which I wasn’t expecting given its concept, but that does make me even more interested in the series. Now admittedly I missed out on the adaptation during simulcast despite being aware of the source material, so at least I now own the series on Blu-ray to make up for it (especially considering the manga is probably out of print given Seven Seas’ history with their catalog).

Funimation acquired the streaming and home video rights for My Senpai is Annoying during its broadcast and also provided a simuldub. As the series was picked up under Funimation’s name, the rebranding by Sony a few months later meant that the home video release was now under Crunchyroll’s name. No UK release was planned at the time of this write-up, so here we are with a North American release.

Limited Edition Contents:

I found it interesting that My Senpai is Annoying was chosen by Crunchyroll to receive the limited edition treatment, but considering the manga has been published in English, that probably helped with this choice, but either way its good to see a non-fantasy series get the treatment like Horimiya did earlier in the year.

The package is presented as a rigid box, containing an Amaray case to house the discs. Also included with the set is an 80-page art book, and a cardboard box that includes 4 art cards, a matching lanyard set, and a sticker sheet. The booklet features character designs, interviews with the voice actors, and also a manga segment.

The rigid box artwork is free of any information and the info sheet covers the information and specification like previous Crunchyroll limited edition releases. The SRP for the limited-edition set was $84.98 and there’s no exact unit count, but this will be the final set to use this retail price as the next releases going forward will now be either $89.98 or $94.98. I ordered my copy through Rightstuf for $54.50 (thanks to a 5% coupon code) plus postage. A standard edition Blu-ray release was also released on the same day as this edition.
