K: Seven Stories (Collector’s Edition Blu-ray) Unboxing

K: Seven Stories is a 2018 original theatrical film series directed by Shingo Suzuki and produced by studio GoHands, and a continuation to the 2015 television series K: Return of Kings from the same team. Staff credits also include writer Rei Rairaku, and music composed by Mikio Endō. The studio released each part theatrically per month from July up until December 2018 in Japan.

Background:

“Travel back in time to witness the first encounter between the Red King Mikoto Suoh and Blue King Reisi Munakata.

See the friendship of Misaki Yata and Saruhiko Fushimi as they struggle to find their place in the world.

Plus, find out about the origins of the Green Clan JUNGLE as well as the real truth behind the disastrous Kagutsu Incident.”

Plot Synopsis via Anime Limited, May 2021.

I haven’t seen many of the works produced by GoHands. The first time I heard about them was the Mardock Scramble film trilogy which I didn’t realise was produced by them until much later, but it was the K Project and their later infamous works Hand Shakers, W’z and the Tokyo Babylon adaptation where their name started to lose its reputation more (the latter in particular was amusing because of plagiarism so they were removed from the project). Despite that, I very much enjoyed what I saw from the K Project, which is probably their most known and successful franchise to date.

K Project started off with a simple series which was then followed by a theatrical film K: Missing Kings, another series K: Return of Kings, and now a six-part theatrical film series called K: Seven Stories. Despite the title, there’s only six parts released which was split into a twelve episode list for the western releases.

Viz Media released the franchise over in North America with an English dub including K: Seven Stories, while Anime Limited took over from K: Return of Kings onwards and even re-licensed the first season after KAZE initially had the rights. K: Seven Stories was also acquired by them and released on home video.

Collector’s Edition Contents:

K: Seven Stories continues the consistency for the collector’s edition packaging that Anime Limited have done for K Project over the years.

The package is presented as a rigid box with a digipack to house the Blu-rays, and also included is a 40-page booklet which includes character designs and artwork from the series.

The artwork is free of any information or BBFC content and the info sheet covers the information and specification like previous Anime Limited releases. The collector’s edition Blu-ray set is limited to 1000 units for SRP £59.99. As of the time of this write-up, a standard Blu-ray currently has yet to be scheduled.

The series was released with an early bird offer, but I acquired it as part of my 2022 Christmas haul as Anime Limited eventually offered the set for £14.99 during their 12 Days of Christmas sale.
