Lupin the Third Part 5 (ルパン三世 PART5, Lupin Sansei Part 5), also known as Lupin the 3rd Part V: Misadventures in France, is a 2018 television anime series based on Monkey Punch’s Lupin the Third manga series. The series was produced by studio Telecom Animation Film, and the staff credits include director Yūichirō Yano, screenplay writer Ichirō Ōkouchi, character designer Hisao Yokobori and music composed by Yuji Ohno. The series first aired in Japan on April 2018.
Background:
“Lupin meets the modern world of technology! With the help of the young security expert Ami, Lupin steals a digital fortune from Marco Polo, a wealthy dark web bank.
When a social media game suddenly goes viral, everyone on the planet seems to be out to catch Lupin and his gang!
Lupin, his gang, and Ami flee to another country to escape arrest. But the game changes from “catch” to ‘Kill,” placing a bounty on their heads!”

The Lupin the Third train continues to keep rolling as the franchise manages to not only release more anime content, but more seasons as well. With Lupin the Third Part IV focusing on Lupin and his crew in Italy, Lupin the Third Part 5 moves to France and has a bit more focus on modern technology which is interesting. Unlike Part IV which had two different versions of broadcast and thus two different releases, Part 5 doesn’t have this issue so we have one version for everyone.
Lupin the Third Part 5 was once again licensed by Discotek Media, on behalf of TMS Entertainment. That said, their release took a while due to the extensive work on providing and translating dozens of on-screen text throughout the series. Initially planned to be split into two parts, they eventually released the series in one Blu-ray set.
Anime Limited acquired the United Kingdom rights for Lupin the Third Part 5 as soon as the series started airing in Japan. While they jumped the gun on Part IV with some questionable results, this time around they waited for the North American release to be completed before they put out theirs so they have the best possible release.
Collector’s Edition Contents:
Anime Limited continues the consistency trend for the Lupin the Third franchise by offering a collector’s edition package, though this time there’s no Anime Limited banner for the spine or a slipcase like Lupin the Third Part IV had.
The package is presented as a rigid box with an digipack to house the discs. Also included with the set is a 116-page booklet featuring character designs and tons of background artwork.
The artwork is free of any information or BBFC content and the info sheet covers the information and specification like previous Anime Limited releases. The collector’s edition Blu-ray set is limited to 1000 units for SRP £69.99. A standard Blu-ray is expected to follow suit later down the line.

The collector’s edition release for Lupin the Third Part 5 contains all 24 episodes plus the OVA episode “Is Lupin Still Burning?” across three Blu-ray discs, with the encode and authoring produced by MediaOCD for Discotek’s release. The audio options include Japanese with English subtitles and the Wowmax Next Studios English dub commissioned by TMS Entertainment.
The yellow subtitles (plus blue subtitles for on-screen lyrics) are unlockable during playback, and the regions are locked to Blu-ray players set to B.
