Our Last Crusade or the Rise of a New World (Kimi to Boku no Saigo no Senjou, Aruiwa Sekai ga Hajimaru Seisen) is a 2020 television anime series based on Kei Sazane’s light novel series of the same name. The anime was produced by studio SILVER LINK with directors Shin Oonuma and Mirai Minato, and publisher Kadokawa. The series first broadcast in Japan on October 2020 as part of the Autumn season.
Background:
“An oppressive empire. A rebel nation forged for freedom. Caught in the middle are two powerful warriors, yearning for peace. A century-long war made them mortal enemies, but fate might make them lovers.”
Plot Synopsis via Funimation, November 2021.
Silver Link have been on a pretty good roll these past few years with light novel and manga adaptations that have turned out pretty well, like BOFURI, Fate/Kaleid Liner Prisma Illya, Misfit of Demon King Academy, and My Next Life as a Villainess with some of them even getting more seasons.
One of the titles that aired in 2020 that Silver Link animated was Our Last Crusade or the Rise of a New World which looks like an Isekai but is actually a regular fantasy series with a Romeo & Juliet concept. It’s an interesting series but won’t entice every anime fan out there. I liked it enough to acquire the show, and a few months after the show aired Kadokawa greenlit a second season which is great for the light novel fans of the series.
Funimation licensed Our Last Crusade or the Rise of a New World a season earlier than its broadcast, and did well enough to be offered the limited edition treatment. At the time of this post, there is currently no plans for a UK home video release.
Limited Edition Contents:
Funimation has been providing limited editions with a fair bit of physical content in recent years, but sometimes they tend to split the physical items into their own cardboard boxes or inside the rigid box. Our Last Crusade or the Rise of a New World falls into the same category as the latter, like Dr. STONE and Fire Force.
The limited edition box set features a rigid box that houses the show’s amaray case and a slipcase as well as a booklet and a spare cardboard box that includes the fabric poster. While limited editions from Funimation sometimes have exclusive artwork, this is just the same as the regular edition. The booklet offers character designs, production artwork on the background and visuals and also interviews with both the director, author and main two leads in the Japanese cast.
The artwork is free of any information and the info sheet covers the information and specification like previous Funimation limited edition releases. The amaray case and slipcase will still have the specification and info on the back cover.
The SRP for the limited edition set was $84.98. It’s an expensive release overall, but I think it does a pretty decent job for fans of both the light novel and anime adaptation. The North American Funimation limited editions don’t have an exact unit count, but it’s still in print if you are after one at the time of this write-up.
