Konosuba: God’s Blessing on this Wonderful World! (Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku o!) Season 2 is a 2017 television anime series based on the light novel of the same name written by Natsume Akatsuki. It was adapted by studio DEEN with director Takaomi Kanasaki and writer Makoto Uezu, and published by Kadokawa Pictures. The series first broadcast in Japan on January 2017 as part of the Winter 2017 anime season.
Background:
“After their fight with the Destroyer, Kazuma is brought in by the law for subversive, even traitorous activities! However, in a show of perfect camaraderie, his friends and everyone from the Guild band together to clear his name and–okay, listen, none of that happened.
Abandoned by friends, stuck in jail, subjected to a humiliating lie detector test, and then finally brought before a corrupt court, Kazuma’s life hits the bottom of the barrel. But the adventure isn’t even close to done yet, as Darkness pulls rank to save his life… but at what cost? And how are they going to kill the Devil King when they’re down a Crusader? Find out in this, the second chapter of a grand, epic tale of– pffthahaha.”
Plot Synopsis via Anime Limited, March 2021.
The adventures of Kazuma and his daft friends return once again with a second season, though interestingly it kept the 10 episode count and an additional OVA. The first season was a surprise to many viewers and for myself as well because I was not expecting so much fun antics with this Isekai title.
Eventually as the years went by, Konosuba: God’s Blessing on this Wonderful World! was one of the few big shows that was missing for home video. Eventually it was revealed that Crunchyroll had full rights to the series, but was not included in Funimation’s partnership either so it was a surprise that eventually the show was made available dubbed for streaming before it was distributed for home video through Discotek Media.
Anime Limited was able to acquire both seasons of Konosuba: God’s Blessing on this Wonderful World! for the United Kingdom and Ireland, however they still do not have the film that came afterwards. Saying that, they did distribute the film for theatrical on behalf of Crunchyroll (with BBFC sorted for theatrical) but was very messy in terms of handling like very few notice and technical problems.
With how fast Season 1 has done in terms of sales, I expect Season 2 to do the same for both distributors in general.
Collector’s Edition Contents:
Much like the first season, Anime Limited released Konosuba: God’s Blessing on this Wonderful World! Season 2 in a collector’s edition package with a rigid box, Amaray case and booklet. Because the series is presented with a single Blu-ray disc (authored and optimised by Discotek Media), Anime Limited opted for an Amaray case rather than a digipack.
As mentioned, included in the set as well is a 52-page booklet featuring character artwork, profiles, locations, stamp collections and more that were translated for the first time outside of Japan for this release. The materials came from the original Japanese Blu-ray sets.
The set received 1000 units in total for a £59.99 SRP and will eventually sell out like the first season. There is a standard edition scheduled a month after the release of the collector’s edition so the series will still be around for UK fans.
