Love Live! Sunshine!! (ラブライブ! サンシャイン!!) Season 2 is a 2017 original television anime series produced by studio Sunrise with director Kazuo Sakai. Staff credits also include writer Jukki Hanada and music composer Tatsuya Kato. It is the second season to the 2016 Love Live! Sunshine!! anime series and part of the Love Live! franchise. The second season of the series first aired in Japan on October 2017.
Background:
“In spite of their previous setbacks, the members of Aqours are working harder than ever to save Uranohoshi Girls’ High School from being shut down as the second term begins.
With another Love Live event already on the way, their ultimate goal of winning the contest and saving their school is in clear sight… but is there enough time to achieve their dreams before the clock runs down and the school is closed? With all manner of new hardships facing them, the Aqours girl’s friendships and dedication will be tested to the limit while they endeavour to awaken the power of their collective talent, and hope to shine as they seek to cement their place in Love Live history.”
Plot Synopsis via Anime Limited, June 2020
Love Live! Sunshine!! is the second series after Love Live! School Idol Project from the same animation studio, and follows the idol group Aqours rather than μ’s. Members of the group Aqours include Chika Takami, Riko Sakurauchi, Kanan Matsuura, Dia Kurosawa, You Watanabe, Yoshiko Tsushima, Hanamaru Kunikida, Mari Ohara, and Ruby Kurosawa. Each character shares the spotlight throughout the series.
Funimation acquired the United States & Canadian rights for the series in terms of streaming, dubbing and home video. However, Anime Limited acquired the United Kingdom & Ireland rights for streaming and home video over here, with Crunchyroll offering the series during simulcast for these territories.
Collector’s Edition Contents:
Anime Limited does provide the series with their traditional digipack packaging to match the first season.
While the first season had a lower print run, the second season seems to have maintained the usual 1000 unit print run for the collector’s edition Blu-ray release. Despite mentioning they would have a booklet to cover the rest of the Aqours character profiles (Kanan Matsuura, Dia Kurosawa and Mari Ohara), I suspect licensing issues prevented this and so we have instead is a fold-out poster and 9 art cards like the Funimation limited edition release. Disappointing to be honest.
The artwork is free of any information or BBFC content and the info o-card covers the information and specification like previous Anime Limited releases. The collector’s edition Blu-ray is limited to 1000 units for an SRP of £59.99. A standard edition Blu-ray is expected to follow suit.
I pre-ordered the series via Anime Limited’s store during its early bird week.
