With the second theatrical anime film coming soon, I figured it was time for me to actually check out the first film especially as I have already gotten through a few seasons of the anime series.
My Hero Academia the Movie: Two Heroes (Boku no Hero Academia the Movie: Futari no Hero) is a 2018 theatrical original anime film based on the manga series My Hero Academia written and illustrated by Kouhei Horikoshi. The anime was animated by studio Bones and published by TOHO Animation. The anime was theatrically released in Japanese theaters in August 2018.
It was eventually going to happen and it did. My Hero Academia’s popularity has reached the point where we are now witnessing theatrical films for the series. Much like the other shonen films of the past, Two Heroes is also non-canon but does reference events that have taken place in the canon story. For instance, Two Heroes is set in between Season 2 (Final Exams arc) and Season 3 (Forest Training Camp Arc).
Licensing-wise, Funimation has the UK, IE, US & CA rights for the film and provided an English dub as well as both theatrical and home video releases. On behalf of Funimation, Manga Entertainment handled the UK & Ireland rights for both theatrical and home video also.
Released in April 2019, My Hero Academia the Movie: Two Heroes from Manga Entertainment contains the film on a single Blu-ray disc using a self-author done by Manga Entertainment. The audio options available include the Funimation English dub with English closed caption subtitles and original Japanese audio with English subtitles. The white subtitles are unlockable during playback, and the region is locked to B.
