Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World- (Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu) is a 2016 series adapted from the light novel of the same name written by Tappei Nagatsuki and illustrated by Shinichirou Otsuka. The anime was adapted by studio White Fox, directed by Masaharu Watanabe, and published by Kadokawa & TV TOKYO.
Re:ZERO is an isekai series that I never would have thought would get this much attention. It’s one of the many anime titles that people in the community have loved. Studio White Fox did a great job with the anime and it’s going to get a second season in 2020, as well as a ‘Psycho-Pass: Extended Edition’ style re-airing for Season 1.
The sole licensor for the anime series is Crunchyroll and this has been known for a long while before the home video release had been scheduled. While Funimation had been able to offer a US & Canadian release, the UK & Ireland release was done by Anime Limited and was even licensed a few months after the show had started airing in Japan.
As I mentioned at the top of this post, the Blu-ray transfer was a controversial mess. All copies of the collector’s edition Part 1 release and even the United States release have the problem of the video quality being pretty terrible. Thankfully the folks at Anime Limited were able to offer a replacement program for owners of Part 1, however, this had meant that we had to send them our discs in return for the newer ones. Not a problem to be honest.
Released in June 2018, Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World- Part 1 from Anime Limited contains episodes 1-12 of the first season across two Blu-ray discs using the Funimation master (with the video transfer done by Madman if I remember correctly, the original faulty discs were done by Funimation) in this collector’s edition set. The audio options include both the Funimation English dub and the main Japanese language with English subtitles. The disc is region locked to B and the white subtitles are locked during playback.

“A simple trip to the convenience store turns into a life-changing experience for Subaru Natsuki, as he finds himself inexplicably transported to another world out of the blue. While the structure of this strange land seems to mirror the trappings of the RPGs Subaru knows all too well, unfortunately for him he has been thrust into this dangerous world without any kind of magical powers or overwhelming skills at his disposal… or has he? Unfortunately for this unlikely hero, his sole ability is one that can only be activated by the most dire of circumstances: his death.”
