The Night is Short, Walk on Girl (Collector’s Edition Blu-ray & DVD) Unboxing Redux

Back in September 2018, literally weeks before I moved to WordPress and started working for the first time, I picked up a few Masaaki Yuasa titles in HMV. I have one of them with me at my location! Here’s an unboxing redux look at Anime Limited’s now out of print collector’s edition release of The Night is Short, Walk on Girl.

The Night is Short, Walk on Girl (Yoru wa Mijikashi Arukeyo Otome) is a 2017 feature-length anime film directed by Masaaki Yuasa, animated by studio Science SARU and published by TOHO Animation. This film was released in the same season and year as Lu Over the Wall, Masaaki Yuasa’s other film he had directed at the same time.

The Night is Short, Walk on Girl is based on the novel written by Tomihiko Morimi who also wrote The Tatami Galaxy. Masaaki Yuasa also adapted The Tatami Galaxy into an anime many years prior. Both The Night is Short, Walk on Girl and The Tatami Galaxy share similarities such as its unique presentation and character designs, however, both are standalone in general so you won’t need knowledge of either one to understand the other.

In terms of licensing, the film has been acquired in the UK, Ireland, and France by Anime Limited while the US & Canadian rights are with GKIDS. The UK release came first, with both a theatrical release and a home video release along the way. The film was released on Blu-ray in the UK & Ireland in June 2018 in both collector’s edition and standard edition sets.

The Night is Short, Walk on Girl from Anime Limited contains the film on a single Blu-ray and DVD disc, using the French Anime Limited (@Anime) master in this collector’s edition set. No English dub was produced for the film so it was released in original Japanese audio with English & French subtitles. The disc is region locked to B and the subtitles are locked during playback.

The collector’s edition Blu-ray & DVD is out of print, but a standard edition Blu-ray and DVD release are available to order through Amazon UK.
