Solo Leveling Season 2 -Arise from the Shadow- (Limited Edition Blu-ray & DVD) Unboxing

Solo Leveling Season 2 -Arise from the Shadow- (俺だけレベルアップな件 Season 2 -Arise from the Shadow-, Ore Dake Level-Up na Ken Season 2 -Arise from the Shadow-) is a 2025 television anime series based on Chugong’s manhwa & web novel series of the same name with illustrator Jang Sung-rak (Dubu) and the second season to the 2024 anime series. The television series was directed by Shunsuke Nakashige and produced by studio A-1 Pictures. Staff credits also include series composition writer Noboru Kimura, character designer Tomoko Sudo and music composed by Hiroyuki Sawano. The second season first aired in Japan in January 2025.

Background:

“On a warpath to save his mother, Sung Jinwoo clears deadlier dungeons, grows his shadow army, and officially becomes S-Rank. But when the ant colony on Jeju Island evolves, Jinwoo must work with some of the world’s best hunters to take down their queen.”

Plot Synopsis via Crunchyroll UK, March 2026.

One of the most popular anime of the past few years, Solo Leveling is a surprisingly entertaining shonen series and I had a blast going through the episodes at a rather quick pace. Very rarely do I manage to blitz through the episodes back to back to the point where I’ve finished it in a day or two. The first season had a great hook and they announced a second season as soon as it had finished airing, which arrived only a year later.

Solo Leveling Season 2 -Arise from the Shadow- is even more insane with its action sequences especially during the final episode, but I can understand many may get put off by the common ‘overpowered MC’ trope. As of the time of this point, despite the massive popularity of the anime and source material from the Korean novel and WebToon, there’s currently no greenlit status for a third season. Much like the previous season, the Japanese audio track also has two versions; one for the Japanese audiences that use Japanese names for the characters, and another for the International audiences that use the original Korean names for the characters. The latter is what’s used for the Crunchyroll distribution.

A-1 Pictures have been busy though, with their talent focusing on different projects. The studio have been animating Fate/Strange Fake, the entirety of the MASHLE: Magic & Muscles manga series in batches, and Too Many Losing Heroines! around the same time as Solo Leveling. It’s also pretty interesting that the director for this adaptation is the same person who directed Mother of the Goddess’ Dormitory which is the complete opposite for its audience and content.

Even though this is an Aniplex property, Crunchyroll were able to acquire the streaming and home video rights, with an English dub also produced. It’s popular enough to not only get released as soon as possible but with a limited edition also available.

Limited Edition Contents:

Solo Leveling Season 2 -Arise from the Shadow- received a limited edition that is pretty consistent in design and content to the previous season, but whether Crunchyroll will keep it going for future seasons (if they get produced) is up in the air given their track record.

The limited edition release is presented with a rigid box, an Amaray case (with a slipcase) housing the discs, and a card cover that includes a 68-page booklet, 4 art cards and a sticker sheet. The booklet features character designs, interviews with the Japanese staff, key animation and visuals artwork, and A Shadow’s Daily Life manga comic.

The rigid box artwork is free of any information or BBFC content and the info card covers the information and specification like previous Crunchyroll releases. The limited edition Blu-ray & DVD has an unspecified number of units printed for an SRP of £69.99, with a standard edition Blu-ray available for retailers at an SRP of £44.99.

Unlike last time I actually pre-ordered further in advance with MVM’s Anime-on-Line store so it shipped out without any issues. The price was £52.49 with free postage which was the cheapest option at the time, and considering how fast the previous set had sold out, I didn’t want to wait for a sale to secure a copy.
