2025 had been a pretty intriguing year in general. The collection has grown more to the point where I am now starting to worry if I have enough space at this point. Thankfully there are plans to rectify that for 2026. I am still working at the same place even though it had been changing rapidly each quarter with various events occurring.
Anyway we have now reached 12 years of collecting anime and other stuff, with this 13th update!. There’s been no major additions to the shelving but I did purchase a new laptop because the previous one was struggling on power and memory usage. For 2026, there will be a few more shelves planned but nothing major so I expect these to be the last ones for the room but it should keep me going for another year.
The biggest changes item-wise to this collection have been more anime, more games and even more films included on the shelf. I did remove a couple releases in favour of the North American releases as they would have shelf-space much easier to manage.
For those curious, all of the photos were shot using the Google Pixel 8 Pro at 50MP format and then optimised down to 4K resolution.
The Bookshelves for 4K & Blu-rays of Anime & Cinema

Above the Bookshelves: Anime Limited Ultimate Editions + Sentai Filmworks Premium Editions + NIS America + Viz Media + Universal
Starting off the list with the titles that are above the shelves. This is where the bigger box sets are located but also small collections from specific distributors. Once again the only new addition of titles here came from Anime Limited.
New Additions for Anime Limited (Collector’s Editions):
- Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken!

Back Rows #1-6: Limited Edition Anime Box Sets
I changed up the layout from the previous years by having all of the limited edition rigid box sets at the back row so that the standard/regular sets can have their shine at the front.
On the first row and start of the second row we have the Crunchyroll & Funimation limited edition releases. In order we have Anime Limited, Manga Entertainment, Crunchyroll & Funimation UK, the short-lived Funimation UK releases distributed under Anime Limited, MVM Entertainment, Elysium, Crunchyroll & Funimation US, and then a couple miscellaneous releases.
Because Crunchyroll’s UK branch has been putting more effort in bringing over almost all of the new releases, there’s been less hassle to consider importing though a few have slipped through so I’ll need to get them!

Back Rows #7-8: Limited Edition Asian Cinema Box Sets with 4K Releases + Old Funimation Limited Editions + Misc. Releases + Yen Press Manga
On the back for the seventh and eighth rows we start off with the one-off digipack box set that Manga Entertainment released for Dragon Ball Super, before we transition over to the Asian Cinema releases presented in their rigid limited edition box sets.
To add some clarity, each distributor will have releases starting off with the Blu-ray box sets before shifting over to the 4K Ultra HD box sets and rinse and repeat. From the left of the seventh row all the way to the right we have 88 Films, Arrow Video, British Film Institute, Eureka Entertainment, Second Sight Films and Warner Bros.

On the eighth row at the back, this is where the remainder of the older Funimation limited edition releases from that era where they mainly sold two slim Blu-ray cases in a rigid box are located. Next to them afterwards are a couple older 88 Films releases and one British Film Institute release positioned here because I now have 4K versions or newer releases acquired over the past year. This is then followed by the classic Tartan Video releases as well as the big box releases from Arrow Video and Criterion UK.

The Glass Shelf for More Films

The Bookshelf for Manga & Novels

Rows #1-3: Miscellaneous + Light Novels
Next we take a look at our bookshelf on the side that’s dedicated to the manga, light novels and books in general. The first few rows have had the same layout as the previous update (2024 complete collection) so not much has changed here and thus I’ll re-use the same photos that I took before.
On the first row located right at the top, we have our large-sized books as well as any miscellaneous volumes that don’t fit with the rest of the shelf. Included here is a large-sized Vertical manga, large-sized Yen Press manga, a couple anime books, Abroad in Japan book, the Junji Ito manga collection, a few Yen Press omnibus manga, Kodansha Comics‘ hardcover manga volume, two Vertical light novel volumes and The Quintessential Quintiplets manga box sets.
In front of those books we also have Chobits Dark Horse omnibus volumes, and larger-sized Viz Media manga books. No new volumes this time around.
On the second row, we have a couple light novels released by distributors Seven Seas via their Airship label, J-Novel Club and a single volume from Viz Media. On the third row, more light novels but from distributor Yen Press via their Yen On label. Again, similarly to before, there’s been no new updates here this time around.

Back Rows #4-7: Seven Seas + Ghost Ship Manga
From here is where we have new updates! I re-arranged the manga shelves so that the raunchy series from distributor Seven Seas and their mature label Ghost Ship are pretty much kept hidden.

New Additions for Viz Media (Shonen Jump Hardcovers):
- Fist of the North Star – Omnibus 6
- JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean – Omnibus 3, 5, 6, 8 & 9

Front Rows #4-7: Viz Media + Dark Horse + Kodansha + Yen Press Manga

New Additions for Viz Media (Viz SIGNATURE):
- Alice in Borderland – Omnibus 8 & 9
- Dogsred – Volumes 1 & 2
The Bookshelves for Video Games (feat. European Cinema)
Next we have the corner bookshelves for the video game collection. Same rules as before with the focus solely on the modern platforms, so any titles released for the PlayStation, PlayStation Vita or Nintendo DS & 3DS are in another spot. I won’t be showcasing those here since they have no updates.
This shelf covers PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Gamecube, Nintendo Wii and Xbox 360 as well as some artbooks from Bitmap Books and some large-sized collector’s editions.
I also have European Cinema releases by Criterion UK, Eureka Entertainment, Indicator and Radiance Films positioned on this shelf because of space issues as well, so it is out of place but works for now.

Row #0: Bitmap Books + Miscellaneous
Starting with the top row we have our Bitmap Books collection as well as various collector’s editions for various platforms. I have also placed a few anime duplicates on the corner as I couldn’t figure out where to place them, and my Japanese PlayStation Vita collection is located here just to have some visibility on the shelf.

Back Row #7-8: Xbox 360 + PlayStation 2 + Wii + Gamecube
Behind the PlayStation 5 games and European Cinema on the final two rows on the shelf are games related to the Xbox 360, PlayStation 2, Nintendo Gamecube and Nintendo Wii. No new updates here but as I’ve re-arranged the shelf I’ve got new photos of their current position this time.

Front Row #7R-8R: European Cinema with 4K Releases
In front of the retro 00s games on the seventh and eighth rows is my European Cinema collection with Radiance Films plus Criterion UK, Eureka Entertainment, Indicator, and Studio Canal.
With Radiance Films, the films are sorted by country of origin. On the seventh row we have the French Cinema releases, both the regular limited edition sets and the rigid limited edition sets. And on the eighth row we have the Italian Cinema, both the regular limited edition sets and the rigid limited edition sets, followed by Belgium, German, Polish, Spanish, and Swedish Cinema, both the regular limited edition sets and the rigid limited edition sets where applicable. The World Noir releases have various countries so I’ve kept them altogether even if one of them is focused on French Cinema.
I have picked up more releases but like I said in the previous update I am not prioritising this as much to avoid trying to go for the mentality of wanting every single release as it’s not healthy.

- The Cat (Die Katze)
- Hardboiled: Three Pulp Thrillers by Alain Corneau:

That now concludes the 2025 otaku collection update!
It was clear that I wasn’t going to top 2024 on the amount of pickups but I’m very happy with this turnout as we still acquired a good amount of titles across each medium. The anime pickups have somewhat been toned down because Anime Limited’s collector’s sets haven’t always hit the landing on their execution, so I’ve skipped quite a fair amount that were being released this past year, so you will see more standard edition versions being acquired moving forward. Meanwhile, Crunchyroll have also toned down what is being released on home video and which have been receiving limited editions so that’s shifted the priorities around a lot. I do plan to pick up more of their UK releases but I’ve mainly been holding out for sales whenever possible.
AnimEigo, Discotek Media and Sentai Filmworks will continue to have their collections grow because they are the most shelf-friendly releases to own, and I’ve been very happy with their offerings. Aniplex of America has a few that I have in mind and since I moved Demon Slayer to the UK sets that’s helped with the cost since they would have been expensive to acquire otherwise. MVM have a couple releases on my radar including some steelbooks which I will look into.
One area that I expect will have a lot of new additions going into 2026 is Asian Cinema because there’s been more classics heading over to the UK, whether they finally were able to be released from Tartan’s licensing window or be the start of a new subset of releases thanks to Arrow Video’s acquisition for the UK rights to the Golden Princess catalogue which has 100+ Hong Kong films now out of licensing limbo (City on Fire was the first with Hard Boiled and Peking Opera Blues next in the coming months). If I had one wish for this medium it would be more focus on box sets to make it easier for the shelf-space, especially with 88 Films and their collections because Shout! in comparison have been putting out box sets for their Shaw Brothers and Hong Kong Classics whereas they’re individual releases over here.
European Cinema I am committed to continuing but it won’t be on the priority list compared to other mediums due to so much going on. Which does mean that for Radiance Films I will have to stick to the standard editions at the worst case which ain’t bad considering I can’t always buy their limited edition versions. Let’s just say if the genre is more towards action, thriller, sci-fi or horror then chances are I’ll get it sooner. In case you’re curious of the ones that I’ve watched so far, Bo Widerberg’s The Man on the Roof, Claude Berri’s Tchao Pantin, Jean-Pierre Mocky’s Kill the Referee, and Pietro Germi’s The Facts of Murder I’ve really enjoyed and would highly recommend them.
In terms of the cost of living, that will continue to be a hurdle and while I may receive more pay raises in the coming months, the hauls will still have some turbulence here and there. My unboxings this past year could have had more posted especially with the Asian Cinema so I do want to stress that more will be written and sorted but they take time as I also want to be in the best mindset to watch those films and give the posts the best treatment possible (I type everything manually and don’t use automation because for me it would ruin the originality and vibe of how I would explain things – also feels more rewarding and its how I did better at my Masters degree at University anyway). My job can be straining mentally and it only leaves me with a few hours each day of spare time, plus my weekends can also get occupied which doesn’t help either.
Forwarding services continue to be a massive help with the North American releases though not long ago the UK government announced they’re discontinuing the pre-paid VAT model in a few years time which will make purchases more expensive, but hopefully when we get to that point I have everything that I need.
On a positive note, 2026 should hopefully be the start of adding physical releases related to the Nintendo Switch 2 for the collection, as there are more publishers stepping in to make that happen in a proper cartridge than a Game Key Card. I will continue to pick up games for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch and maybe Xbox 360 if there’s a good opportunity.
One last thing to mention is a recap on the new storage planned for the room. The goal is to have a new half-shelf (similar to the one used for the games) with an add-on at the top for the main shelf so that I can move the Asian Cinema to that spot, essentially freeing at least 3 big rows (front and back). I also plan to look into a new smaller shelf parallel to the manga bookshelf so that I can also relocate the larger-sized manga books, which would also free another big row on the main shelf but also support the book collecting. These new shelves may also be the new spot for the European Cinema and General Cinema as well.
As always, I appreciate everyone taking the time to view all of my posts and waffling. I don’t earn any revenue from viewership due to the rules with this platform but if you do want to support me then feel free to use any of the affiliate links I have around for Amazon, Play-Asia and Stackry (for forwarding packages from US to your location, currently they’re offering $25 off shipping for first-timer users). If you are someone who is interested in building an Asian Cinema collection of your own, I highly recommend giving Terracotta a try who package their stuff really well (bubblewrap and boxes) and they have a mini points system so you can get a discount if you spend a certain amount over time. I do believe they also ship internationally if you want an alternative to folks like Arrow. For video games, my go-to has been The Game Collection and Video Games Plus, both of which have really solid prices and points system to get more discounts.
Here’s an overall shot of most of the collection:
