Iwakakeru! -Sport Climbing Girls- (いわかける！- Sport Climbing Girls -), also known as Iwa-Kakeru!, is a 2020 television anime series based on Ryūdai Ishizaka’s manga series Iwa-Kakeru!! -Try a new climbing-. The season was adapted by studio BLADE, and the staff credits include director Tetsuro Amino, series composition writer Tōko Machida, character designer Yoshihiro Watanabe, and music composed by Tsubasa Ito. The anime season first aired in Japan on October 2020.
Background:
“Sport climbing is a sport that makes use of both the body and the brain to climb walls. Kasahara Konomi, a master at puzzles, just happens to discover her school’s climbing wall, and it looks almost like a colorful sort of puzzle in her eyes. This fateful encounter brings big changes to Konomi’s life! With her teammates in the Hanamiya Girls’ High School Climbing Club, Konomi races for the top in this passionate climbing story!”

Another sports series and one that is different to the traditional shonen concepts. Iwakakeru! focuses on sport climbing which is something that I’ve seen here and there in the UK but its one that climbers like to take part in for their big adventures, so to see a manga and anime focus on this is pretty neat.
The show was adapted by BLADE who eventually worked on The Maid I Hired Recently Is Mysterious and Hokkaido Gals Are Super Adorable!, both of which I’ve heard no complaints with its animation especially considering the art style for Iwakakeru! is a bit simpler at first glance when you compare it to the manga’s illustration designs.
The series had remained streaming only for the past half-decade and out of nowhere in April 2025, Anime Limited announced on their blog it was among the list of Crunchyroll licensed titles that they would be bringing over to home video in both the UK and US territories. There was enough material for the series to have a collector’s edition as well.
Collector’s Edition Contents:
Iwakakeru! -Sport Climbing Girls- had enough material from the Japanese home video releases available for Anime Limited to produce a collector’s edition for their release.
The collector’s edition release is presented with a rigid slipcase containing an Scanavo case to house the Blu-ray discs, and alongside the case includes an 52-page Booklet that features key animation and some visual artwork from the anime series.
The artwork are free of any information or BBFC content and the info sheet covers the information and specification like previous Anime Limited releases. The collector’s edition Blu-ray is estimated to be roughly 1000 units printed for an SRP of £69.99 ($89.99 in North America), with a standard edition Blu-ray available for retailers at an SRP of £39.99.
This release was included as part of their May 2025 early bird pre-order range on their AllTheAnime online store, and I ordered the title on its own to avoid any delays using the Anime Unlimited membership (price was £39.99 + Postage which was reduced down to £35.99 + Postage).

The collector’s edition release for Iwakakeru! -Sport Climbing Girls- contains the complete series, episodes 1-12, across two Blu-ray discs. The discs were authored and encoded by VDMS, and also ultilises Crunchyroll’s font type for the subtitles.
Crunchyroll did not produce any dubs for this series, so the audio options available are Japanese with English subtitles only.
The white subtitles are locked during playback, and the discs are region accessible to players set to A & B.
