Jujutsu Kaisen: Hidden Inventory/Premature Death (Blu-ray) & Shibuya Incident (Limited Edition Blu-ray) Unboxing

Jujutsu Kaisen (呪術廻戦) Season 2 is a 2023 television anime series based on Gege Akutami’s manga series of the same name and a continuation to the 2020 anime season. The season was adapted by studio MAPPA, and the staff credits include director Shōta Goshozono, series composition writer Hiroshi Seko, character designers Sayaka Koiso & Tadashi Hiramatsu, and music composed by Yoshimasa Terui. The anime season first aired in Japan on July 2023.

Background:

Hidden Inventory/Premature Death Arc:
“Second-year students Satoru Gojo and Suguru Geto are tasked with protecting the Star Plasma Vessel. But their mission could turn them into enemies and cement their destinies – one as the world’s strongest sorcerer and the other its most twisted curse user!”

Shibuya Incident Arc:
“On the fateful night of October 31, a Curtain falls upon Shibuya. Geto and his cursed alliance are waiting to spring their trap when Gojo storms in, as Itadori and other Jujutsu Sorcerers gather outside the Curtain. Will humans or Curses laugh in the end?!

Plot Synopsis via Crunchyroll, March & May 2025.

Shonen Jump over the past decade published a bunch of popular manga titles with anime adaptations of their own, and Jujutsu Kaisen were among the ones that received the treatment. The first season aired in 2020 and while it had a interesting premise and slow start, as the season progressed it got better and was very entertaining. The anime did super well and the manga sales went up, so TOHO and studio MAPPA then proceeded to work on a theatrical film based on the manga’s original pilot which later became known as Jujutsu Kaisen 0 and treated in canon as a prequel. Then they revealed a second season which covered three story arcs.

The story arcs that were covered include Hidden Inventory, a four-episode arc taking place before the events of the first season and pilot focusing on the characters Gojo and Geto, Premature Death, a single-episode arc continuing the events that came prior, and Shibuya Incident, an 18-episode arc going back to present day and continuing where the first season left off with a pretty intense and insane series of fights.

There is a third season in the works at the time of this writing, adapting the Culling Games arc while TOHO are also releasing a theatrical film compilation of the Hidden Inventory & Premature Death arcs which in North America is being distributed by GKIDS since TOHO recently bought the distributor.

As I mentioned before, what made Jujutsu Kaisen stood out alongside the other Shonen Jump adaptations was the animation because it’s really good, though the second season did have various production issues which were very known in the anime community. The Blu-ray has received various animation adjustments to try and improve the scenes.

Crunchyroll acquired the streaming rights for the series and also picked up home video at the same time. The first season of Jujutsu Kaisen was sub-licensed to Viz Media in North America and Anime Limited in the United Kingdom, however for Jujutsu Kaisen 0 and Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Crunchyroll kept the home video rights and released it themselves for both territories.

Limited Edition Contents (Shibuya Incident):

Jujutsu Kaisen is one of the most popular anime shows currently on-going so it makes perfect sense for Crunchyroll to take advantage of the hype and produce their own limited edition releases, though Season 2 is treated more like their two-part sets in contrast to Anime Limited & Viz Media’s model (makes sense because they tried this with My Hero Academia and it didn’t look particularly great).

Part 1 covers both the Hidden Inventory & Premature Death arcs, while Part 2 covers the entirety of the Shibuya Incident arc. The limited edition is designed to support all of the arcs altogether especially with the promotional artwork used that represents all three.

The first print for Hidden Inventory/Premature Death does include an o-card sleeve and 3 Art Cards.

The limited edition Shibuya Incident release is presented with a rigid box containing an Amaray case with an o-card sleeve to house the Blu-ray discs, and alongside the case includes an 84-page booklet and a cardboard box that also contains 5 Art Cards, 8 Character Portrait Stickers, 2 Character Sticker Sheets and a Jet Tag Keyring. The booklet includes an episode guide and interviews with various Japanese voice actors.

The limited edition rigid box does include the DVD logo on the spine but this is a Blu-ray only release.

The rigid box artwork is free of any information or BBFC content and the info sheet covers the information and specification like previous Crunchyroll releases. The limited edition Blu-ray has an unspecified number of units printed for an SRP of £79.99, with a standard edition Blu-ray available for retailers at an SRP of £49.99.

I ordered my copy for £59.99 alongside The Rising of the Shield Hero Season 3 at MVM’s Anime-on-Line store at the last moment but they arrived together, though Hidden Inventory/Premature Death arc set did take a few more days.
