Plot Synopsis via Crunchyroll UK, December 2024.
After 10 years, from 2013 to 2023, Attack on Titan‘s anime adaptation had finally concluded. Four seasons filled with various twists and turns and it was a rollercoaster ride that I had enjoyed watching. I didn’t watch the first season during simulcast so I was spoiled by the twists but from the second season onwards I went in totally blind and even avoided any spoilers related to the manga.
But going into Attack on Titan: The Final Season: The Final Chapters, I recall many people’s anticipation that it was going to end pretty badly because of how the manga turned out. Personally I had no major issues with its conclusion and it didn’t sour my taste with the anime series as a whole. I also knew people had concerns about the direction of the animation style because we went from WIT Studio, who animated the first three seasons, over to studio MAPPA. I personally love MAPPA’s work with this series and the character designs worked really well with the darker tone the story’s direction was going.
Now by the title you can tell this is not the usual complete season. Attack on Titan: The Final Season was divided into three parts. The first two were complete cours worth of episodes, and the final part became two hour-long television specials which adapted Volumes 33 & 34 (chapters 131-139), the two remaining volumes not previously adapted into anime format. In Japan they have also aired an edited version that turns the television specials into the regular TV format (as Episodes 29-31 covering the first special and Episodes 32-35 for the second special), and now we also have a new theatrical compilation version called Attack on Titan: The Last Attack, which provides 5.1 audio and animation corrections.
Like the previous anime seasons and parts, Funimation acquired the streaming and home video rights for Attack on Titan: The Final Season with simulcasts and a Toonami broadcast. Then came the Crunchyroll rebranding which meant the series is now under Crunchyroll’s name, and therefore Attack on Titan: The Final Season: The Final Chapters is available on home video from them for both the US & UK territories. With the anime now adapted, all that’s left for Crunchyroll to release on home video are the OVAs that Kodansha previously released on DVD via their manga volume releases and the various amounts of theatrical compilation films.
Limited Edition Contents:

You guessed it, Crunchyroll have kept it consistent and we also have a big box to house the entirety of the final season.
This release is presented with a rigid box and inside contains the digibook that houses both the discs and the 32-page Notes Beyond the Wall Part VIII Booklet. Also included inside the box is a 148-page Artbook with various interviews from the staff who worked on the final season plus storyboards and illustrations, and a cardboard spare box that is there to allow folks to house the limited edition releases for Parts 1 & 2, but inside that spare box are 7 Art Cards and 2 Enamel Pins.
The rigid box artwork is free of any information or BBFC content and there’s a wraparound covering that information and specification like recent Crunchyroll UK limited edition releases. The limited edition Blu-ray & DVD combo pack has an unspecified amount of units printed for an SRP of £74.99, with a standard edition Blu-ray also available same-day for an SRP of £39.99.

Considering that I had been picking up each of the limited editions close to release, I figured I’ll do the same with the final set to complete the ‘Tour’ edition as Crunchyroll have been calling them. I went with MVM’s Anime-on-Line webstore and picked it up for £56.24 which is steep in its price but I wasn’t expecting to see a massive artbook to come included so I guess that does make up for it.
