Uzaki-chan Wants to Hang Out! Double (宇崎ちゃんは遊びたい! ω, Uzaki-chan wa Asobitai! ω) is a 2022 television anime series based on Take’s manga of the same name and the second season to the 2020 anime series. The series was adapted by studio ENGI, and the staff credits include director Kazuya Miura, series composition writer Takashi Aoshima, character designer Manabu Kurihara, and music composed by Naoki Tani, Satoshi Igarashi, Tatsuya Yano & Yuri Morita. The second season first aired in Japan on October 2022
Background:
“After the summer, Uzaki and Sakurai are closer than ever, so everyone’s asking the same question why aren’t they dating? Prodded on by their eccentric friends and families, the pair’s true feelings start to bubble to the surface. But not without a fight!”
Plot Synopsis via Crunchyroll UK, June 2024.
It is the return of the smug anime girl genre with Uzaki-chan Wants to Hang Out!‘s second season. Now I know many people were turned off by this series because of the character Uzaki, due to her short-heighted appearance and having large melons. I’ve seen at least one person of this particular figure in real life so they do exist which sounds hard to believe but I can see why translating into animation form can give viewers the wrong assumption. Uzaki and Sakurai are both portrayed as University students in the series for a bit more context, but being serious though the series is a lot better than it looks in my opinion.
One thing that I will say about the first season (I’ve not seen the second season yet) is that studio ENGI did a pretty decent job considering their animation is not as well made compared to other distributors. Their adaptation for Full Dive and Kemono Michi were too simplistic which doesn’t translate well for various scenes, while Uzaki-chan Wants to Hang Out is more dialogue driven and comedic so their animation does the job here.
Funimation had the rights for the first season, but here it is now under Crunchyroll since the two companies merged together. It is also noteworthy to mention that the UK did not receive the first season when it was released on home video a few years ago (only North America & Australia), so as of June 2024 Crunchyroll UK released both seasons together for the UK audience, with the first season provided as a regular edition release and the second season offered in both standard and limited editions. Since the distributor has been putting more effort into matching the US release when bringing these limited edition sets over to the UK I decided to go for the UK version for the second season.
Limited Edition Contents:

Even though Crunchyroll have been toning down their limited editions for shows that have gathered more seasons, Uzaki-chan Wants to Hang Out! must have done well enough during streaming to receive a limited edition for its second season.
This release is presented with a rigid box and inside contains an Amaray case that houses the discs, as well as a 96-page Artbook. Bundled outside the rigid box is a separate small cardboard envelope that includes 6 Art Cards. The Artbook contains an episode synopsis, character designs, background information for each character, background designs and key animations, and various interviews with the staff and voice actors.
The rigid box artwork is free of any information or BBFC content and there’s a wraparound covering that information and specification like recent Crunchyroll UK limited edition releases. The limited edition Blu-ray & DVD combo pack has an unspecified amount of units printed for an SRP of £69.99, with a standard edition Blu-ray also available same-day for an SRP of £39.99.

This was released earlier in the year and I didn’t get around to pre-ordering it like I normally would for other releases, but the series was on offer as part of Crunchyroll UK Store’s Black Friday sale which is a first given their UK store only started a few months prior. The price on offer was £36 which normally goes for £60 (or £57 if you have a Crunchyroll Premium account which is 5% off any product).
