Kandagawa Jet Girls (神田川JET GIRLS) is a 2020 Japanese video game developed by Honey∞Parade Games and published by Marvelous. The localised release for North America was published by XSEED Games. The Japanese release came out in 16th January.
Background:
Before I talk about Kandagawa Jet Girls, I wanted to briefly discuss the developer Honey∞Parade Games because this is a team that are known for handling the Senran Kagura franchise. Now I like the franchise for their cast of characters, the fun gameplay and amusing fanservice, as evidently seen with the fact that I own most of their releases throughout the years. However, as the years go by, Sony eventually forced Japanese developers to tone down their content, which is presumably caused by the infamous dungeon-crawler Omega Labyrinth Z getting banned (for physical release, a digital release was apparently fine from what I read before Sony stepped in) in the United Kingdom.
Because of the requirement to tone down content, eventually Senran Kagura‘s latest game 7EVEN went into development hell while the creator and producer Kenichiro Takaki left the company to join Cygames, who are known for their critically successful franchise Granblue Fantasy, and is currently working on Project Awakening. But before that happened, Takaki provided one more game with Honey∞Parade Games and Marvelous in the form of Kandagawa Jet Girls, which is also a multi-media project as an anime adaptation by studio TNK and publisher Kadokawa Pictures was also released at the same time (though actually the anime came first but only by a few months).
Kandagawa Jet Girls was released to mixed reception and sales were ‘below-expectations’ to say when it first launched in Japan. Though that did not stop the game from being brought over to the west by both XSEED Games and Marvelous Europe. While XSEED Games provided a rather nice launch edition, Marvelous Europe decided to release the game digital only for Europe and Australia, effectively forcing those (like myself) having to import the North American version just to secure a physical copy.
Racing Hearts Edition Contents:
Kandagawa Jet Girls was released in a first print launch edition by XSEED Games, known as the Racing Hearts. This package comes with a sturdy rigid box containing a physical copy of the game with an instruction booklet, a large 64-page artbook and a 2-disc original soundtrack CD.
Disc Specs:
Distributor: XSEED Games
Released: 25th August 2020
The version of Kandagawa Jet Girls that I own is the North American release from XSEED Games, as there is no physical release in Europe and Australia under Marvelous Europe. The disc is region free like any other PlayStation 4 disc would be, and takes up 7.59GB of hard drive space with the Version 1.03 patch update included.
The game does feature downloadable content with characters from the Senran Kagura franchise available to add to the game’s current roster. Trophy-wise, this is one of the easier lists to fully complete and comes with a Platinum.
