Rightstuf ran a pre-holiday sale covering a couple of titles including a bunch of Funimation limited editions and one of them was this particular series. The LE is pretty much out of print now but for $20 I couldn’t say no to it and ordered it.
Wanna Be the Strongest in the World (Sekai de Ichiban Tsuyoku Naritai!) is a 2013 television anime series based on the manga series written by ESE and illustrated by Kiyohito Natsuki. The anime was adapted by studio Arms and published by Yomiuri Telecasting Corporation (YTV). The series aired during the Autumn 2013 anime season.
Wanna Be the Strongest in the World is a wrestling-themed anime series with ecchi elements. I remember hearing about the series a while back but it didn’t gain that much traction, probably because the fanservice threw viewers off or the show was not as good as they had hoped. Honestly, I’m expecting simple entertainment like a lot of ecchi series.
The series streamed on Crunchyroll for a while until Funimation eventually acquired the US & Canadian rights to the series and released it on home video. Surprisingly (but I guess it’s no surprise because the show has ecchi themes) it received a limited edition set and eventually, the show landed in the S.A.V.E. line (but got rescued into the Essentials range for those who want a nice looking standard but cheaper set for their shelf). There had been no UK release for the show but I’ve been interested in the limited edition for a while and now was the last opportunity to get it.
This release by Funimation contains the entire series (12 episodes total) across 2 Blu-ray and 2 DVD discs. The audio options available include the English dub and original Japanese audio with English subtitles. The white subtitles are unlockable during playback on Blu-ray, and the discs are locked to Region A Blu-ray players and Region 1 DVD players. The DVD discs are in NTSC format.
The limited edition release is the classic Funimation presentation. A rigid chipboard box with two slim Blu-ray cases housing the discs. There is different artwork for each case.
Wanna Be the Strongest in the World is currently out of print for the limited edition Blu-ray & DVD combo pack and S.A.V.E. Edition Blu-ray & DVD combo pack, but will soon be available once again as an Essentials Blu-ray release starting February 2020.

“The eye-popping world of women’s professional wrestling is sweaty, sadistic, and savagely sexy. Famous Japanese pop idol Sakura Hagiwara is better suited for the dance floor than the wrestling ring, but this ravishing songstress is about to put her body to the ultimate test.
When she and fellow idol Elena are assigned to pose as wrestlers for a very special show, a vicious lady brawler by the name of Rio decides to teach the girls a lesson they won’t soon forget. Rio unleashes a flurry of ferocious of attacks on Elena, contorting her divine female form into an array of very naughty positions.
