Kizumonogatari Part 3: Reiketsu (Limited Edition Blu-ray) Unboxing

The third film in the Kizumonogatari trilogy was released a while ago, but it has taken me this long to actually go and pick it up. Just in time for the festive season, I reckon!

Kizumonogatari Part 3: Reiketsu (Kizumonogatari III: Reiketsu-hen) is a 2017 feature-length anime film directed by Tatsuya Oishi, animated by studio Shaft, and published by Aniplex. Kizumonogatari Part 3 is the third and final film in the movie trilogy adaptation of the Kizumonogatari novel written by NisiOisiN.

Taking place before the events of Bakemonogatari and Nekomonogatari Black, but is the second arc in the novel series, Kizumonogatari took a while to be adapted into an anime. It was announced as a single film around the time Bakemonogatari was airing in Japan, but it was quietly changed to three films at roughly over one hour runtime each. These three films were eventually released theatrically in Japan from January 2016 to January 2017.

Kizumonogatari has been licensed and released in the United States and Canada by Aniplex of America. MVM did bring these films over to the UK via sub-license, but I had already been supporting the Aniplex versions so for consistency reasons I continued with them. The packaging is similar to the Monogatari arc sets but with some adjustments. There is no o-card wraparound and the proof of purchase card is no longer included in recent Aniplex sets. In addition, the original soundtrack for Kizumonogatari has been included in CD form.

The Monogatari franchise as a whole has never been dubbed into English (with the exception of the Audiobooks of the novels), and thus this release is Japanese audio with optional English subtitles only. The Blu-ray disc is region free, i.e. accessible in Regions A, B & C territories.

Plot Synopsis (via Aniplex of America):

“With help from Meme Oshino, the apparition specialist, Koyomi defeats the three powerful vampire hunters: Dramaturgy, Episode, and Guillotinecutter. Koyomi takes back all the limbs of Kiss-Shot-Acerola-Orion-Heart-Underblade in order to become a human again. But, when he returns to Kiss-Shot, she reveals to him the cold truth of what it means to be a vampire – a creature of the night. Unable to take back what he has done, Koyomi feels nothing but regret and can only deny his dreadful fate. While Koyomi is struggling to face reality, his “friend” Tsubasa Hanekawa comes to him with a certain plan…”
