OVERLORD III (Limited Edition Blu-ray & DVD) Unboxing

OVERLORD III is a 2018 television anime series based on the light novel series written by Kugane Maruyama and illustrated by so-bin. The anime was adapted by studio Madhouse and published by Kadokawa Pictures. This series is the third season to the July 2015 anime series and January 2018 anime series, all three seasons were animated by the same studio.

Overlord is a relatively fun series to watch with an interesting take on the Isekai genre that has been really popular over the years. Though the anime to my knowledge did receive some criticism for rushing the source material at times.

Like the first two seasons, Funimation also has the rights to the third season. This applies to all English-speaking territories (US, CA, UK, IE, AU, NZ) and for the UK it has been distributed by Manga Entertainment which Funimation acquired back in May 2019. Anime Limited distributed Season 1 and Manga Entertainment distributed Season 2 in the past, both received limited editions but for Season 3 Manga decided not to bother due to the sales of the Season 2 set, which to be fair is entirely their fault for keeping it exclusive to Zavvi compared to their other limited edition sets which sold much better.

Therefore I imported the Funimation version from the United States for OVERLORD III. The sets will match regardless so it’s no real loss. The only major difference is that the discs are region locked to A & 1 and thus are not UK compatible.

Released in June 2019, OVERLORD III from Funimation contains all 13 episodes of the entire third season across two Blu-ray discs and two DVD discs. The audio options available include the English dub and the main Japanese language with English subtitles. The white subtitles are locked during playback on Blu-ray, and the regions are locked to both A and 1 NTSC respectively.

Plot Synopsis (via Funimation):

“This land will fall to his command – the overlord is back! While Ains Ooal Gown’s conquest over Yggdrasil is bearing fruit, a deadly power struggle between empires could lead to Ains’ downfall.
