Is it Wrong to Expect a Hot Spring in a Dungeon? (Limited Edition Blu-ray) Unboxing

A while ago Sentai Filmworks released the OVA special to DanMachi and the first print run eventually went out of print. Amazon had a couple of units left so I took this opportunity to grab it, with the second season coming up.

Is It Wrong to Expect a Hot Spring in a Dungeon? (Danjon ni Onsen o Motomeru no wa Machigatteiru Darō ka?) is a 2016 anime OVA from studio J.C. Staff and is based on the light novel series Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? from Fujino Omori.

The OVA came out a fair while after the first anime season had aired and it’s quite surprising to see it become available standalone for the western market. Though in this case, the OVA was released on its own in Japan so the chances were much higher than those which were exclusive to manga volumes.

Sentai Filmworks acquired the rights and released it around the same time as the spin-off series Sword Oratoria back in May 2018. The OVA was released in a special limited edition version that comes with the original soundtrack for DanMachi Season 1 which wasn’t included in its initial limited edition set. This particular version has now sold out and has been replaced with a much cheaper standard edition for those who were only interested in the OVA and wanted to own it for a cheaper price. Though the version that I have is still available to order through Amazon US at the time of this write-up.

The Sentai Filmworks release contains the OVA episode on a single Blu-ray disc with the Soundtrack CDs covering two more discs. Also included is a mini booklet to cover information about the episode and also two mini paper sheets to go through the soundtrack listings. The OVA episode is available in both English & Japanese audio with English subtitles. The disc is geo-locked during playback and the yellow subtitles are locked also.

Plot Synopsis (via Sentai Filmworks):

Our band of bold adventurers has just blown through the 18th level of the world’s most fearsome dungeon, so what do they do for an encore? Since the city of Orario doesn’t have a theme park, the next choice for Bell, Hestia, Lilly and the gang would seem to be a trip to the hot springs… and, conveniently enough, a battle with some hellhounds has led them to an undiscovered underground oasis! However, there’s something fishy about these springs, beyond the fact that Hermes happens to have bathing suits for all the ladies in their correct sizes! Will the secret be discovered before it’s too late? Will Hestia finally come clean with Bell? It’ll all come out in the wash when our heroes learn the answer to: Is It Wrong to Expect a Hot Spring in a Dungeon?!!
