OVERLORD II (Limited Edition Blu-ray & DVD) Unboxing

OVERLORD II is a 2018 anime based on the light novel series written by Kugane Maruyama and illustrated by so-bin. The anime was adapted by studio Madhouse and published by Kadokawa Pictures. This series is the second season to the 2015 anime also handled by the same studio. The second season came about thanks to the popularity and sales of the first season’s anime adaptation.

Just like any anime these days this is also an Isekai series. It follows a protagonist who decides to remain on the MMORPG that he enjoys at the server’s last moments only to end up in a new world with his game character’s servants. This series is actually pretty solid and I recommend checking out the anime seasons and the novels when you can.

Funimation have the rights to all three seasons (so far) for the anime and these were sub-licensed to the UK & Ireland. The first season was released by Anime Limited, with a replica of the Funimation release included thanks to fan demand, while the second season was released by Manga Entertainment. The second season which we have right here was also given a replica treatment for the UK with some differences.

The main difference is that the set is exclusive through Zavvi at a higher price point than the first season, in addition, the main Blu-ray case which houses the discs does not use the inside & outer artwork featured in Funimation’s limited edition but rather Funimation’s standard edition. Outside of that, the rest is completely identical so on the shelf it will look like a US release.

The BBFC stickers are on the box but can be removed without issue, however, the glue-like thing which attaches the info sheet to the back of the box is stronger than the ones Anime Limited use so be very careful when you remove it because it can potentially damage the artwork of the box.

Released in February 2019, OVERLORD II from Manga Entertainment contains all 13 episodes of the entire second season across two Blu-ray discs and two DVD discs. The audio options available include the English dub and the main Japanese language with English subtitles. The white subtitles are locked during playback on Blu-ray, and the regions are locked to both B and 2 NTSC respectively. Both formats are identical to the Funimation version (with Manga’s logo in the beginning).
