Alongside the Ghost in the Shell ARISE series, I also picked up the Valvrave show that Aniplex released many years ago. This post will cover the first season’s box set.

Valvrave the Liberator (Kakumeiki Valvrave) is a 2013 original anime series from studio Sunrise and published by Aniplex. The studio is known for animating a number of science-fiction-themed shows throughout their catalog, including the likes of Buddy Complex, Code Geass, Cross Ange, Mobile Suit Gundam, and tons from their pre-2000s era including Ideon and Dunbine. One of the shows they animated in recent years is a supposed trainwreck called Valvrave.
Valvrave has two anime seasons in total, each comprising of around 12 episodes. The first season is notable for introducing the ‘Let’s Keep Going And See What Happens’ reaction during its airing run, and also a controversial sex scene during episode 10. Regardless the show was considered successful enough for Aniplex of America to license and release it onto home video in North America.
Aniplex of America released the series across two volumes during September 2014 and January 2015 for $149.98 SRP each. They eventually went on sale during the Rightstuf Holidays so you can tell it’s still in stock. Regardless I got them for around the same price that the US fans would pay for from that sale.
The Aniplex of America release for the show’s first season contains all 12 episodes across three Blu-ray discs in Japanese audio with English subtitles only. The subtitles are unlockable during playback and the discs are compatible across all regions. Alongside the main series is a couple art cards.
