GOD EATER Parts 1 & 2 (Blu-ray) Unboxing

GOD EATER has been on my list to get for a while. With MVM’s Christmas 2018 sale, the two volumes were available for a low price and I went for them.

For this unboxing, we’ll be going through both Part 1 and Part 2 sets given they are standard editions. Two in one!

GOD EATER is a 2015 anime series based on the video game series developed by Shift and publisher Bandai Namco. The anime was adapted by studio Ufotable and was also published by Bandai Namco. This is also one of the first Aniplex of America titles to be sub-licensed for their catalogue.

So the anime had a pretty rough production schedule. So rough that various scenes were unfinished and the last four episodes were delayed for many months. The whole series was planned to air during the Summer 2015 season but the last four episodes were delayed to the end of the Winter 2016 season. Regardless I did find some enjoyment to the GOD EATER anime.

Aniplex of America released the series across two volumes and while the artwork was nice I just couldn’t be bothered to spend a lot for the series. I liked it sure, but it wasn’t amazing. I also remember reading somewhere that the video quality was not on part with the other Aniplex titles so that influenced my decision a fair bit.

MVM brought the series over to the UK across two parts due to Aniplex regulations. Part 1 features episodes 1 to 7 while Part 2 features episodes 8 to 13, each across a disc per set. Both sets feature English & Japanese audio with unlockable white-coloured English subtitles and the discs are locked to Region B.

Plot Synopsis (via MVM):

Pushed to the brink of extinction, humanity;s newest enemy are man-eating monsters known as Aragami – the “Mad Gods”. These fearsome creatures that consume everything in their path, are completely immune against conventional weapons.

The only means to combat them lie in living weapons known as “God Eaters” – humans specifically engineered with Oracle Cells within them. Can humanity retake their top position or will they crumble under these monsters in God Eater?
